Currently, Alex teaches about 30 piano students privately, and guides individual pianists as they reach and exceed their goals as musicians and performers. The summer before my senior year, I attended a theory. An expert teacher in both music theory and piano, Alex served as Visiting Instructor of music theory at Nazareth College (2013 – 14) and previously as Graduate Instructor at the Eastman School of Music during the length of his graduate studies, where he taught the whole undergraduate music theory and aural musicianship curriculum. During my undergrad, music theory was my favorite subject and I would often tutor other students. Additionally, Alex enjoys performing solo piano music in a range of styles from the 17th - 21st centuries and plays in a rock band. Since 2014, he has music directed numerous shows from the piano including The Sorcerer (2014), A Victorian Valentine (2015), A Gilbert and Sullivan Christmas Carol (2015), Cox and Box (2016), Musical Mystery of 1932 (2016), Pirates of Penzance (20), Patience (2017), 42nd Street (2017, pianist only), The Mikado (2017), Thespis (2018) and numerous traveling Off Monroe Players revue group performances. In addition to concert and church accompanying, Alex also serves as pianist and frequently music director for numerous theater groups including the Rochester Association of Performing Arts (pianist only), Rochester Lyric Opera concerts (pianist only), the First Light Players, the Off-Monroe Players, and the Geneseo Community Players. high school) - Music Theory revision & exam prep. Alex was then employed as staff accompanist at Vassar and Nazareth Colleges over the course of college and graduate school, and currently serves as pianist, organist and music director at Trinity Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Rochester. In high school, between 1998 - 2000, he competed in choral festivals as accompanist and won awards at district, regional and all-state levels in the state of Pennsylvania. A collaborative pianist since the age of twelve, Alex had an early career accompanying in the church, school choirs, and music festivals. Alex Kuczynski holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music (MA and PhD, piano studies in the studio of Rebecca Penneys) and Vassar College (BA in music and cognitive science).
